Rheumatology Virtual Video Tour
Rheumatology | Teaching/Fellowships | Application Instructions
The Fellowship Program participates both in ERAS and in the National Resident Matching Program for Pediatric Rheumatology. ERAS application service opens in July. For our fellowship, applicants must have completed pediatric training in an accredited US residency program or qualify as an exceptionally qualified candidate. We require the common application form (CAF), a one-page personal statement discussing career plans and goals, USMLE Certified Transcript, and three letters of recommendation (including a letter of reference from your residency program director). Please consult the ERAS web site for further details. Completed applications will be screened and selected applicants will be invited for interviews in St. Louis to meet with our faculty and fellows and tour the facilities. These interviews will commence in September and continue through October/November. For the NRMP Pediatric Rheumatology match, rank order list submission dates and match dates can be found on the NRMP website each year.
Foreign medical graduates must be certified by the ECFMG and have completed residency training in pediatrics in the United States or qualify as an exceptionally qualified candidate.
Special Training Pathways
We have trained fellows with dual board-certification in Med-Peds Rheumatology, Pediatric Rheumatology & Allergy/Immunology, and Pediatric Rheumatology & Infectious Diseases. We have experience in developing appropriate training programs to meet board criteria, including seeking approval from the appropriate Boards, and two of our faculty are dual-certified: Maleewan Kitcharoensakkul, MD, MSCI, in Pediatric Rheumatology and Allergy/Immunology and Reema Syed, MD, in Med-Peds Rheumatology. We are open to candidates seeking special training pathways, and if this interests you please contact us early in the interview season to discuss options prior to your interview date.
2021 Application Cycle
For physicians applying during the 2021 application cycle for a position starting July 2022 we are offering interviews in a virtual format to ensure the safety of all, and to allow for the opportunity to interview without the need for travel due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. While we realize that a video interview cannot give you the full experience of our innovative and fast-paced program here at Washington University, we hope to make this experience as beneficial as possible as you select the next phase of your training. We encourage applications from physicians who will have completed a Pediatric or Med/Peds Residency Training Program with a passion for Pediatric Rheumatology. Our program will have two fellowship slots for 2022. We are committed to fostering a safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace for our trainees.
